In
1984, I came across a Vox Spitfire with a cracked pick guard and
two of three pickups dead. It was painted an awful sky blue as well.
Amazingly, the body was a beautiful straight grained single slab
of mahogany, but what to do about a pick guard, new pickups and
tone circuits ?
Choosing an 1/8" birch ply, I
made my first all wood pick guard,
added Carvin single coils with the middle pickup reverse wound,
so either neck or bridge pickup would create a humbucker when combined
with the middle, and made the up selection of each 3 position mini
toggle out of phase for each pickup. It's an great sounding guitar
I
currently have Telecaster
and Stratocaster pick guard
prototypes finished with a thin two part polyurethane clear coat
Each pickguard is unique and hand made, will not warp, and has superior
tone qualities to plastic parts.
I will be offering stained birch parts,
a wide range of exotic hardwood veneers and custom laminates to fit
any electric guitar or bass
Custom jobs welcome and in time will be using Marquetry
and Inlay
crafts to create truly unique artwork pieces
